The party was hired by House Lyrandar to follow up on rumors of a new source of soarwood. A strong, light, and rare wood that is essential to the production of airships. Control of such a supply of this wood could lead to a significant shift in the power dynamic of Khorvaire. Their investigation sent them first to Fairhaven in Aundair where they met a wizard who was an expert in the soarwood biology. He revealed to the party that based on his analysis of the climate, he determined the existence of a less explored region of the world where the wood could be growing in abundance. Due to the sensitive nature of the resource, the wizard insisted on meeting at his home later to discuss details.

However, when the party arrived at his home later that night, they found his home ransacked and the wizard dead. They searched through the mess and managed to find a series of letters of an individual self-identifying only as Greensinger. The rogue managed to find an envelope with Morgrave University in Sharn as the return address in the deceased wizard’s trash. With no other leads, they paid for travel on the lightning rail and began traveling south. As they traveled from city to city the party couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being followed. They never noticed any particular individuals, but the feeling was ever-present.

When the party reached the city Wroat, they discovered that while they were traveling the lightning rail to Sharn had been sabotaged. They were concerned with remaining in the city since during their travels they heard Wroat had a strong presence of the king’s intelligence force “the dark lanterns”. They found a lyrandar agent within the walls of the city and he offered to transport the party the rest of the way on his airship. The party settled in as the ship flew above the lightning rail towards Sharn.

While flying over the kings' forest the ship began to slow down. The cleric went looking for the crew to find out what was going on when he stumbled across the crew tied up and gagged in a closet in their underwear. He looked back and saw what looked like one of the crew members, fully dressed. He made eye contact and began to change in appearance. His hair turned silvery-white and his skin and eyes lost their pigment. As the creature charged at the cleric, there was the sound of an explosion as the ship violently tipped. The impact thrust the party to the deck of the ship. A galleon rose up from underneath bearing the flags of the kingdom of Breland. The galleon hooked itself to the Lyrandarian craft and three warforged warriors boarded. The ranger and the barbarian began fighting them off while the cleric and the rogue began trying to cut the ropes. More warforged kept boarding the ship and they became overwhelmed. The Lyrandarian agent desperately called out to the rogue to board the galleon and try to release the trapped elementals. This would crash the galleon and they could getaway. The rogue quickly dashed onto the deck of the galleon dodging the ship's hands.

While the party was trapped in the navigators quarters the quick-thinking Lyrandarian agent ran over to the controls and performed a barrel roll with the ship, dumping warforged soldiers into the forest below. The rogue then reached the cargo hold where he found a barrel of gunpowder. He rolled the barrel near where the starboard elemental ring stabilizer, placed one end of a fuse in the barrel and lit the other end. He sprinted off the ship and as the gunpowder exploded. The elementals trapped in the ring flew away and the galleon began losing altitude.

Unfortunately, the Lyrandarian craft was still tethered to the galleon and they were being pulled to the ground. The Barbarian then rushed over and cut the rope with his great ax and they sped away. The airship arrived on the outskirts of Sharn just as the sun was setting. They found the nearest place to suppress the elemental and dock the ship. The party disembarked onto the gritty streets unsure of what to expect, in search of the wizard’s correspondent.
