This crossbow package is everything as advertised. It is compact, light, very fast and extremely accurate. Initial setup was easy and everything fit perfectly. Sighting the scope was simple. I recommend fully reading the owner’s manual before assembling.

    PROS:

Scope: The illuminated scope was a major consideration for me when choosing between the 410 and 420. It’s a MUST HAVE for low light conditions and I’m glad I went the extra. It took a while to site, only because I’m so particular, but after a couple of hours it hits dead-center of the bulls eye at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards and with enough force to ensure a kill.

Trigger system: it’s an awesome feature. When sighting the scope, I forgot to load an arrow and attempted to take a shot. The anti dry-fire mechanism performed exactly as it was supposed to as it wouldn’t allow me to move the safety to the “fire” position.

Rope cocking device: it takes a bit of strength to use it, but cocking the bow is fast. I much prefer speed over the slow “click, click, click” of the hand crank. I also had to considerably shorten the string on mine for comfort. I weaved the excess rope into a circle, leaving it intact in case I would ever want to lengthen it again. I suggest also having the hand crank available for those (women and elderly) who don’t have the strength to use the rope device.

    CONS: none so far.

Other thoughts: the sling is great, I never had one before and it definitely helps when carrying the bow into the woods. Waxing every 5 to 10 shots (I do 5) is as crucial as regularly changing the oil in your car. Lastly, discharge the arrow if a shot is not taken. The book says not to leave it cocked for more than 4 hours. Do as instructed and the crossbow should last a long time.

UPDATE: I’ve taken two deer this season. The first was a 20 yard shot and the arrow hit perfectly with unbelievable speed and force. Needless to say, the broadhead was ruined, but that was not unexpected due to the short distance. The second was the ultimate test for the main reason why I purchased this crossbow to begin with. It was a 50 yard shot and again, the arrow hit the intended strike zone with enough force to make the kill and also bury the 22” arrow in the ground up to the fletching. Overall I couldn’t be happier with my crossbow as it exceeded all my expectations. I totally recommend the Barnett Ghost 420 for the serious bow hunter.

Arrived ahead of schedule and is exactly as described. Instructions are incomplete and just plain terrible, but it is not difficult to assemble.
Performance is great. Able to keep bolts in a 2 inch circle or less at 40 yds with no problem. Unfortunately, the trigger sear is long and heavy, but is easily overcome with a bit of practice. At 7 lbs it is a bit heavy. Recommend leaving off the quiver.
Biggest problem: be sure to use Threadlock (medium strength) wth screws on the red dot scope and stirrup as they tend to loosen after only a few firings. I lost the rear screw assembly on the scope even after constant watch. After Threadlock, absolutely no problems.
Working with Leader Associates was an enjoyable experience. They are friendly, cooperative and assist in replacement with no questions asked, truly a breath of fresh air in this days economy.

This this is smoking fast and hits like a truck, and I'm getting 2 inch groups at 50 yards. Another great product from barnett.

Amazing! Most played with toy at my sons birthday party. Although his nan nearly lost her toe in a loading 'accident'. Don't stand too close in flip-flops!

Box came very battered and looked as if been used, although insides were all wrapped and looked perfectly new. Just shame that the box was ruined. Should be a good present

Just a ridiculous amount of fun, certain people in the household aren't too keen on me running around firing the darts everywhere but its worth the moaning.

Also its surprisingly strong and has a decent distance on it.

If you're like me and are new to archery, this is going to take some getting used to. It wasn't easy to string the bow and cocking can be dangerous if your foot slips off the foot loop. Be careful using this as it is a powerful bow, but it takes some serious pull to cock it. Not for kids.

This bow is the perfect no frills, destructively effective machine. Beautiful in its simplicity. It’s a 150 lb monster, so it can be difficult to cock. But as long as you run the cock assist rope up around the rear of the stock, my 10 year old can do it. If you try to brute force cock it...good luck! This monster will run a 14” bolt through a 3/4” sheet of plywood. If you want simple, beautiful and brutal, buy this bow. I love it. It scares me, but I love it.
